Homemade Coasters

What you see here is an empty cup of what WAS yummy Sweet Tea from a local pizza shop. Lol, no actually, what I am showing you is UNDER the empty cup! It is my homemade coaster. This one I made for my balcony mini-table so I only made one. I decided to try making coasters with Stampin' Up Designer Series Paper (DSP). I have done this before using paint and regular solid color paper, but never with Stampin' Up paper! 

All you need is the following:


- DSP of you choice (I used one of the designs from the Delicate Dots Collection)
- 4 Ceramic Tiles (You can get these for cheap at Home Depot or another home supply store)
- Adhesive that dries clear (I use Modge Podge) *not pictured below
- Paint (if you choose to paint the sides)
- Brush (a thick one for your adhesive and paint)

The tiles are usually 4-1/4 x 4-1/4 (a measurement us card makers are used to). 

All you have to do is follow these 5 easy steps:

Step 1: If you want, you can get white paint and paint the sides of your tile the color of your choice, but it isn't necessary. Sometimes the sides  are two-toned. I didn't care enough since it was going to sit on my balcony.

Step 2: Cut four 4-1/4 x 4-1/4 pieces of DSP. You may cut smaller if you want there to be a border around your DSP, it is up to you.

Step 3: Glue your DSP to the tiles and let dry. Use a VERY thin layer, but make sure you get the whole surface up to and including the edges. If you use clear drying glue, it will be fine if you run a little off the edge. Use something flat (like your bone folder) to press down your paper to ensure it sticks. I propose waiting 5 minutes to catch any spots that do not stick well.

Step 4: Apply your clear drying adhesive all over the top and sides of the tile in a straight motion left to right or up and down. Whatever you choose, stick to it, as the lines will appear in a design like fashion when it dries. Make sure you spread it smooth so that there aren't any clumps of glue.

Step 5: Let it dry!

That's it! Easy right? I made this one in less than 10 minutes.

You can make these for yourself and color coordinate with your living room or dining room. Or you can make these as gifts and give them to friends and family! Tie a nice little bow around it or create a matching gift bag!

I haven't tried it, but I have seen others who stamp on the coaster to make their design. The possibilities are endless!
